Factory Farming by Brian F

          March 27, 2015
Worldwide meat production has tripled over the last four decades and increased by 20 percent in just 10 years factory farming is bad for the environment and animals. The government is not doing anything about it.
Factory farming animals are getting treated poorly. Brown D. states in the article entitled “Factory farming” they’re not doing their job right because the animals are getting killed with no respect. Also the factory farmers are killing calves. Brown stated, “97% of the 10 billion animals tortured and killed each year are animals”. This in important because the animals are getting treaded poorly killed every year they don’t get a chance to live over year because factory farmers are killing them with no respect.
Conditions in factory farms are terrible. What happens in factory farming? In the factory farming there vicious abuse and neglect atrocious conditions disease and agonizing death. In 2011 a video was shot inside of a turkey farm in North Carolina. The video was voile and terrified everywhere there were turkeys being kicked tossed from trucks to trees being dragged on the floor.
The chickens are getting the worst treatment. Layer chickens lay 90-95% of the eggs sold in the U.S. Knew born chickens are pleased on a conveyor belt where a worker picks each one up to see if it is male or female. New born males are placed in trash bags and suffocated decapitated gassed crushed or ground up alive. Knew born females are placed back on the belt the next worker then picks up the female chick holds her up to a machines hot iron which cuts off her beak and then puts her back on the belt

McDonald's Unhealthy Meals

McDonald’s is the world’s largest hamburger fast food restaurant. McDonald's serves about 68 million customers daily. The company began in 1940 as a barbeque restaurant. Then it became America’s favorite fast food. McDonald’s has extremely changed a lot over the years. Now you can go to a McDonald’s and purchase a cheap, unhealthy hamburger that is over 800 calories. In 2011, an NPD group report stated that Happy Meals sales were down six percent, from 1.3 billion to 1.2 billion orders.  Mc. Donald’s has been on the news recently. The recent news story was about “Pink slime” Pink slime is a substance created by throwing chickens in a machine and crushing their body parts to make chicken nuggets out of them.

One positive aspect of this is that McDonald’s contributes to society by having charities for children with cancer. For every happy meal that is purchased, a penny is donated to hospitals for children with cancer. McDonald’s isn’t known for selling healthy foods but some things on their menu are quite healthy.  In Technomic’s 2009 kids and moms consumer trend, report “overwhelmingly chose McDonald’s as their fast-food restaurant. “In total 37 percent of kids chose McDonald’s”. Their Happy Meals contain a lot of calories, sugars, and sodium. After a while McDonald's has been adding nutritious sides to the happy meals.

One the downside, McDonald’s is what makes your stomach sick. One example of a fattening food is the cheese burger. The cheeseburger will sit in the stomach for a long period and it will dry out. Also their chicken nuggets have an unhealthy ingredient in it. Such as pink slime. Pink slime is a substance from a machine that separates chicken parts and then gets breaded into pieces of chicken nuggets.

America isn't the only country selling unhealthy fast food to children. Italy’s McDonald's sells “pizzarotto” which is a small stuffed calzone with tomato and mozzarella cheese. In Thailand a McDonald's serves a barbeque hamburger with pork, and contains high calories and high fats. All around the world people are eating these foods and sooner or later the amount of obese children will rise.

McDonald's happy meals McDonald’s foods is an unhealthy choice for people over all.  Communities all around the world should have fresh and healthy restaurants. They should have these restaurants so that the number of obese kids will decrease.

Monster Energy Drinks

Monster Energy has been around since early 2002. They have made 34 different flavors. One 16oz can contains 160mg of caffeine. In 2011 a 14 year old died after drinking TWO large cans and her parents sued the company. There have been 5 possible deaths from drinking Monster; Monster Energy Drinks can cause heart attacks, trips to the E.R and death.
In the U.S nearly 21,000 people went to E.Rs after consuming energy drinks in 2011, according to a 2013 report from the Administration. K. Kaplan states in the article entitled “Energy drinks speed heart contractions.” This means that it has been proven that Monster Energy Drinks cause heart attacks. And there is even more proof about it.
Studies show that the ingredients have high caffeine and taurine and you can experience significantly increase heart contractions. D. Thompson states in the article entitled “Energy Drinks Affect heart.” “Healthy people who drank energy drinks high in caffeine and tourine experienced significantly rate. People who drink energy drinks should stop if they want to continue being healthy. The results to energy drinks could kill you.
Energy drinks have resulted a death of a young 14 year-old girl. B. Meier states in the article entitled “Monster Energy Drinks Cited Deaths.” “The records were recently obtained under the freedom of information. Mass Produced Foods

Mass producing Foods has become a booming industry that makes a lot of profit. But do people know how badly this processed food affects them? Processed foods are very unhealthy for human consumption and for the environment. Manufacturers have to take down many trees and remove wildlife to acquire space to build their factories.
Mass produced foods contain many chemicals to make the food taste normal and to be able to make more of the food. Most meats and patties for fast food restaurants start off with a mash of meats called “pink slime”. Pink slime is meat that has been ground up and washed down with ammonium hydroxide. The buns in most fast food places like McDonalds, have; “Enriched Flour (Bleached Wheat Flour, Malted Barley Flour, Niacin, Reduced Iron, Thiamin Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Folic Acid), High Fructose Corn Syrup” (Robin Konie, 2012) And that’s only a few of the ingredients used in just the patty. These few added ingredients are bad for your health like High Fructose Corn Syrup. High Fructose corn syrup is bad for you because it can cause obesity and disease if eaten too much. Enriched flour is another added ingredient, it add extra calories that the body doesn’t need, and the consumer gains more pounds.
Fast foods have negative effects on your body as it can affect your mood, blood pressure, make you bloated, raise your cholesterol, shortened breath, can make you feel depressed, and gain weight quickly through the many calories they contain. The calories can clog up arteries and veins which could then lead to a bypass surgery. A bypass surgery is when doctors take a segment of a vein from your leg and take out the clogged artery or vein on the heart and replace it with the vein from the leg. This is bad because if you have gotten the surgery that could mean you eat a lot of fat, and it could have given you the heart attack that killed you.
As most of the people know now, fast food is made quickly to please the costumers and their stomachs. But the way fast food is made, is worse if you know what really goes on in the production of these foods. Fast food comes from mass production factories, and the process to make the foods includes adding many chemicals. But what is Food Processing? “Food processing is the transformation of raw ingredients, by physical or chemical means into food, or of food into other forms. Food processing combines raw food ingredients to produce marketable food products that can be easily prepared and served by the consumer. Food processing typically involves activities such as mincing and macerating, liquefaction, cooking, canning or jarring (primary-processing such as dicing or slicing, freezing or drying when leading to secondary products are also included)”. That’s a lot that goes into just producing the foods, a lot of the processes is very bad for you. In most of these processes chemicals are added in so the foods can taste normal or better. Once all that is over, the product is then frozen and shipped out to the buyers.
Healthy alternatives to eating fast foods could lead to a healthier lifestyle. Instead of eating a burger at a fast food joint like McDonalds, Burger king or Jack in the Box, you can pick up some fruits and vegetables, or go to an organic market, and cook up something to eat in your home. Homemade food is much healthier than eating out, because you know what is going in to your stomach and what you’re eating. Some organic foods might be pricey, but it’s always better eating healthy, than paying bills from the hospital because of unhealthy eating habits.
